Job Description

Optometrists examine people's eyes to diagnose vison problems, eye diseases, and other conditions. They also prescribe corrective lenses and rehabilitative treatment. An optometrist may also provide vision therapy for those with vision problems or those who have recently had eye surgery. If while examining a patient, they find evidence of disease, they refer the patient to another health care professional. In additon, most optometrists can also remove foreign bodies, such as splinters, from the eye, and apply eye drops and ointment.
